NSSA Sets Dates For 2011

NSSA Radio Debuts

Dear DAVE,

Greetings from Salisbury!

Please let me apologize if you got a "Dear (Wrong Name)" with our first issue. Had a little Excel problem matching names and email addresses.  Hopefully, that has been fixed.

If you won a State Award and just received it via mail some time in the last month or so, we would love to have a picture of you with your Award. Please email it to me at:  dgoren@nssafame.com.

As always, we are looking for new members and sponsors. Please help us recruit to keep NSSA a vital organization that honors the great work that you do every day!

Thanks!
Dave Goren

NSSA Sports Summits

Dave Head Shot

NSSA Executive Director Dave Goren

One of the gratifying parts of being the NSSA's Executive Director is the number of people who call and say, "How can I help?" That shows the level of interest and enthusiasm members have for NSSA. And here's one way all NSSA members can help. In partnership with Sunburst Creative Group, we're trying to launch a series of NSSA Sports Summits -- one-day programs in various cities that include a televised media roundtable and a scholarship/media recognition dinner.

The roundtable would feature 10-to-12 panelists -- from sports media, players, coaches, front office personnel and would use Socratic dialogue and hypotheticals to foster serious discussions of sports journalism.

In order to put these Sports Summits on though, we need to have them funded. If you'd like a Sports Summit to come to your city and know of local or regional businesses that would help fund one, please let us know, either by phone {(704) 633-4275 Ext. 1} or by email {
dgoren@nssafaame.com}.

2011 NSSA Awards Weekend Set

SALISBURY -- The NSSA Foundation Board has set the dates for the 2011 NSSA Awards Weekend.  It will be held Saturday, May 14th through Monday, May 16th, with the 2011 Awards banquet to be held on the 16th.  Sites have not yet been selected for the various events.  But stay tuned to the NSSA Newsletter and nssafame.com for details as they become available.

NSSA Internet Radio Debuts

NSSA Radio

NSSA Internet Radio debuted on Friday June 18th. It's designed to provide NSSA members -- including student members -- with an outlet for their radio talents. NAA member Larry Flegle is operating NSSA Internet Radio for us. In addition to members contributing programming, NSSA also plans to play historical broadcasts from such luminaries as Grantland Rice, Bill Stern and Dizzy Dean -- all NSSA Hall of Famers.

And NSSA has put out a call for programming. If you have something you'd like to share on NSSA Internet Radio, please ftp your content to Larry Flegle at lflegle@windstream.net.
