PBS stations in Tampa and Charlotte have both expressed an
interest in televising the Media Roundtable portion of the Summit.
And NSSA and Summit partner Sunburst Creative Group are engaged in
talks with a marketing exec at a national company who has shown
interest in the project.
If you know of a company that might be interested an NSSA Sports
Summit in your city, please let me know. Contact info is

My
Take On The NSSA Awards
By Dave Goren

We've all heard criticisms of awards and the NSSA Awards are no
exception.
"They're nothing but a popularity contest," I've heard.
Or how about, "I'll join NSSA if I win."
Yes, we sports media may be the ultimate cynics. After all,
we're the ones always complaining about free meals.
But the NSSA serves an important purpose. If it weren't for those
who came after Grantland Rice, how would he be remembered? Would he
be remembered at all? The same question can be asked about
the other 80-plus greats now enshrined in the NSSA Hall of Fame.
For that matter, the same can be said for the thousands of people
who have won state and national awards. While some may indeed have
been popularity contests, it is hard not to argue that many, if not
most awards were won by those whose excellence merited such
acclaim.
So when you go to nominate some time in the next month, and to
cast your final ballot in December, know that not only will you be
contributing to your own industry (and after all, if not us, then
who?), but you will be rewarding excellence and providing a sense
of history for those who come after us.
